Hargeisa (Somaliland Monitor) – KULMIYE party’s presidential hopeful candidate reminded International community and neighbouring country of what he called “provocative actions” by Somalia, as he accused Somalia’s current leadership of trying to destabilize his country, Somaliland. Mr. Behi warned Somalia federal government officials against “interference” in Somaliland’s own affairs.

“For 25 years since Somaliland regained its independence from Somalia, Somalia has been busy for taking measures in which it intended to politically destabilize Somaliland which is a provocative and aggression that can’t be accepted. Somaliland can no longer tolerate Somalia’s interference.  As such if Somalia didn’t stop such measures against us, without doubt Somaliland will do the same and likewise intervene Somalia’s own affairs,” noted Chairman and KULMIYE party’s Presidential Nominee Mr. Muse Behi Abdi speaking in a ceremony where his party has warmly welcomed new supporters from opposition parties in Borama.

“We have heard what they called ‘elections for the houses such as parliament’ we heard that they (Somalia) called us ‘north’ they didn’t even mention our Somaliland. They claimed that they had nominated several members who will be representing for Somaliland for Somalia legislation houses. This is a day dream and far from the truth and a provocative as well. The fact is that we are not administered by Somalia. We are different country and not under the control of Somalia administration.”

Mr. Behi reminds Somalia that his country Somaliland have already cut the ties with the predecessors of the current leadership of Somalia.

“An independent Somaliland had made a merger with you (Somalia) in 1960, but later on we have reclaimed our independence, as such none of us can intervene with each other’s own political sphere. As Somaliland people, our vision is to explore better lives for our children. Both Somaliland and Somalia have experienced difficulties. We could do better in order to improve the livings of our people, and to prevent our people setting back,” noted KULMIYE Chairman Muse Behi Abdi.

On the other side, Mr. Behi strongly condemned WADANI Opposition party’s recent nomination for an Ambassador at large to EU as he pointed out to be as a sign of ignorance and a ‘diplomatic scandal’.

“It is a shocking and shame to see an opposition party nominating for ‘Ambassadors’ to foreign countries. I don’t know what went wrong, but their recent nomination for an ambassador to EU was a diplomatic scandal and it is just showing how the party needs training on governance system and the role of the parties as it seems that the party lacks enough knowledge on how to run party’s issues, and the different between an opposition party and a government.”

Last week Chairman of WADANI party Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi (Cirro) issued a press release in which he appointed Abdirizaq Ahmed Farah – who was the former Somaliland envoy to Pakistan – as Ambassador at large to EU! MFA/DANIDA and UNECA.

WADANI Chairman noted in his press release, “We believe this will be the first step for the WADDANI Party to establish a long-lasting relationship with both the EU Commission and DANIDA, to serve the interests of both our peoples. The Ambassador will foster WADDANI Party relationship with all concerned, undertake relevant negotiations and enter agreements on behalf of WADDANI Party, nurture mutually beneficial relations with above parties to further the interest of the people of the Somaliland Republic, and to strengthen mutual cooperation to fight terrorism, piracy, illegal immigration (Tahriib) and all acts detrimental to our security.

  1. Waddani party and its officials are on the wrong path to politics and diplomacy. In the history of diplomatic operation has not been seen where opposition authorityies nominate an envoy for a country, whereby there is a functioning government to represent its people according to international ties.
