Hargeisa (Somaliland Monitor) – Opposition party UCID and ruling KULMIYE party spoke disparagingly of the leadership of WADANI party’s purportedly secret meeting with the Prime Minister of Somalia Federal Government, as both Parties called for the Office of Prosecutor General and a special joint committee from both Houses of Parliament to initiate an independent enquiry related party top officials’ recent trip to Kenya.
Kenya’s Media and particularly (The Star and Standard) newspapers earlier this week published that Somaliland opposition leader Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro) and his WADANI party’s top officials and the incumbent Somalia Prime Minister Mr. Abdirashid Sharmarke, during a meeting at Serena Hotel in Nairobi had a discussion on the possibility of how the governments of Somaliland and Somalia will once again form a merger after 25 years of division.
‘The Star’ Newspaper reported “Somaliland’s main opposition leader has hinted at a possible unification with Somalia ahead of next year’s elections during his meeting with Somalia Prime Minister at Serena hotel in Nairobi.”
Feisal Ali Warabe, the Chairman and Presidential Candidate of UCID Party strongly criticized Wadani party’s allegedly meeting with Somalia officials’. “I was informed by my sources in Serene hotel of Nairobi which confirmed that WADANI party leadership has had a meeting with Somalia Prime Minister Abdirashid Sharmarke. Such act is showing or can be regarded as a treasonous intention by WADANI party. As such i am calling for the prosecutor general to instigate an official enquiry regarding party’s recent trip to Nairobi.”
According to UCID Chairman, Farah Abdikadir – a former MP and Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs of SFG – has been part and the leading organizer of Nairobi secret meeting between WADANI opposition party and Somalia Prime Minister Sharmarke. Initially parties disagreed the proceedings of meeting and whether photos to be taken during the meeting. Lastly they agreed that no photo to be taken during discussion and it is true that this meeting took place in Serena Hotel which can’t be hidden.
Chairman of Ruling KULMIYE party Muse Behi Abdi, on his side, called on members of Somaliland Houses of Parliament (Elders and Representatives) to nominate a joint committee who will instigate an independent enquiry on opposition party delegation’s recent trip to Kenya which has been led by the Chairman of the House of Representatives, as this will help for the disclosure of the truth.
“KENYA media reported that the Chairman of WADANI and House of Representatives has had a secret meeting with officials from Somalia Government on a possible reunification with Somalia. This is a bad news for Somaliland, as it may have a negative consequence for whole nation. WADANI Party is required to provide more clarification on the facts of their recent trip to Nairobi to the media and the people.”
Furthermore, Minister for Information and National Guidance Osman Abdilahi Sahardid (Adani) similarly accused WADANI party and its leadership of not exposing the actuality of their recent trip to Nairobi. He added that party officials after returning to Hargeisa told the media that their visit is related to getting a support for the famine hit people, which was completely untrue.
According to Sahardid, KULMIYE Party Chairman and President Silanyo are relentlessly beside their people who are severely affected by droughts. In an effort of taking part in the humanitarian relief aids to drought hit people in eastern region of the country, KULMIYE Chairman handed over 100,000 US dollars to the national committees for droughts in Togdheer, Aynabo, and SOOL regions.
Information Minister finally called for WADANI Chairman to ask the people for ‘forgiveness’ as it is a disclosed fact which can’t be hidden that the aim of their recent meeting is to have a reunification dialogue with Somalia Federal Government, rather than relief aid efforts.
Speaking to the media after returning to Hargeisa, Chairman of WADANI party and the House of Representatives Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi (Irro), in his side, described his delegation’s recent visit to Nairobi as a successful one, which shocked the government, but instead satisfied the people of Somaliland, as his party during meetings with International community called for a humanitarian relief aids to drought affected people. He accused KULMIYE party of making a photo of him with Somalia PM with Photoshop software.
