26th Anniversary of Ginbot 20 Celebrated in Somaliland

Hargeisa (The Republican) – According to Ethiopian Representative to Somaliland Republic Brig Gen Berhe Tesfay, We are ready and committed to keep bolstering the trade cooperation between the Ethiopia and Somaliland peoples.

Brig Gen Berhe Tesfay noted this after the celebration of the Ethiopia’s National Day, the 26th Anniversary of Ginbot 20, was marked in Somaliland’s Capital city, Hargeisa on Thursday with the presence of high officials from Somaliland political leaders including the Chairman and Presidential candidate of Ruling Party KULMIYE Muse Behi Abdi, and other officials from opposition parties UCID and WADANI who have colorfully celebrated this historic day with the Ethiopian nationals in the country.

In his celebratory speech to the Ethiopian people, Ethiopian Federal Government Representative to Somaliland Republic Brig Gen Berhe Tesfay spoke in depth the history of this day and the long struggle that the Ethiopian nationals have collectively experienced in order topple the former regime in Ginbot 20, in 1993.

He added that Ginbot 20 is a historic day that enabled Ethiopia to register huge gains.

The diplomat added that this year’s moto in the celebration of this national day is the ‘The Federalism system that is practiced in Ethiopia’ and that is a day which brings more happiness, order, social and political development as well as lasting peace to the Ethiopian communities.

He likewise expressed that 58% of the construction of ABAY dam has been completed and the expectation is to have hydroelectric power system that will produce electricity mounting to 10,000 mgwt after its accomplishment.

Furthermore, Brig Gen Berhe Tesfay highlighted that there are extremists and terrorists who use the names of religion and who are devil-mongers and are against the unity and the development of Ethiopian people, and that it becomes indispensable to collaboratively defeat and fight against the criticality of those religious extremists and anti-development forces.

On the other hand, the Chairman and Presidential candidate of Ruling Party KULMIYE Muse Behi Abdi and representatives from UCID and WADANI have all underscored the history and the importance of this day (20 Ginbot) for the Ethiopian national and communities as well as the whole region. They also spoke about the importance for further strengthening the already existed and historical ties between Ethiopia and Somaliland.
