Hargeisa (Somaliland Monitor)- Somaliland Women Journalist’s Association (WIJA) in Association with SONSAF held a one day training for more than 20 working women journalists on “Ethics for Journalism.”
Director General of the Ministry of Information Mr. Ahmed Aboker speaking at the closing ceremony of the training said, “Respect and prestige of journalists depends on their professionalism and respect for journalistic ethics. I urge women journalists to abide by their professional ethics and keep on their dedication.”
Chair-person of WIJA MS. Yasmin Ahmned Yousuf described the training of ethics as part of the greater effort of their association; to improve the standard of women journalists in Somaliland.
“I encourage the participants and the rest of women journalists, to actively take part in the revision that will be made on Media Law. I hope that their participation will contribute aa lot.”
SONSAF Chairman Mr. Mustafa Sa’ad Dhimbil spoke about the need to further develop professionalism of women in journalism.
He said, “Women journalists have to be well aware of Ethics of Journalism’ to help them improve quality of their profession.”
Training facilitator, Mr. Abdillahi Aden Omer (Wayab) commended WIJA role in improving and developing standard of women in journalism and the eagerness of the participants in the training.
He said, “I and the other veteran journalists are ready to take part in the effort of WIJA, in their dedication and efforts for women journalists.
